Singapore Long-Term Visit Pass Visa: Everything You Need to Know
Singapore has long been ranked as one of the best places for doing business globally. One of the key features of Singapore’s business-friendly administration is that it offers a variety of work passes allowing foreign employees and entrepreneurs to live and work in the country. It also provides options for family members of work pass holders to join them in Singapore by obtaining a family pass.
Each pass comes with specific benefits, privileges, and eligibility requirements that applicants must meet to qualify. Understanding these details is essential to ensure a smooth application process.
In this article, we will review the Singapore Long-Term Visit Pass (LTVP) — a visa that allows Employment Pass and S Pass holders to bring their family members to live with them in Singapore.

Key Facts About the LTVP
The Long-Term Visit Pass is a Singapore visa that allows certain family members of Employment Pass and S Pass holders to stay in Singapore for an extended period.
Who Is It For?
The LTVP is available to:
- A common-law spouse, step-child, or handicapped child of an Employment Pass or S Pass holder.
- Parents of Employment Pass holders earning a fixed monthly salary of at least S$12,000.
- Family members of Overseas Networks & Expertise Pass holders may also be eligible for an LTVP.
Who Can Submit an Application?
Applications for the LTVP must be submitted by:
- The employer of the main work pass holder, or
- An appointed employment agent acting on the employer’s behalf.
Duration and Renewal
The LTVP is issued for a period linked to the validity of the main work pass or the duration requested — whichever is shorter. The pass is renewable, and the renewal must be done before the pass expires.
Legal and Administrative Information
- Legislation: The LTVP is issued under the Singapore Immigration Act.
- eServices and Forms: Applications, renewals, and cancellations can be managed through the Ministry of Manpower’s official online services and forms.
Who Is Eligible for a Long-Term Visit Pass?
You may apply for an LTVP for your family members if you meet all of the following conditions:
- You hold a valid Employment Pass or S Pass.
- You earn a fixed monthly salary of at least S$6,000. Only your personal income is considered; household income is not taken into account.
- You are sponsored by a Singapore-registered company, typically your employer.
Important: Somewhat different rules apply to dependants of Overseas Networks & Expertise Pass holders and EntrePass holders. They should refer to the specific requirements set for their passes.
Eligible Family Members
You can apply for an LTVP for the following family members:
- Common-law spouse
- Unmarried step-children under the age of 21
- Unmarried handicapped children aged 21 and above
- Parents — but only if you earn a fixed monthly salary of at least S$12,000
If you are legally married or have children, you may also be eligible to apply for a Dependant’s Pass instead of an LTVP.
Note: Employment Pass holders who are in Singapore under an Intra-Corporate Transferee (ICT) arrangement — under WTO GATS or an applicable Free Trade Agreement (FTA) — are generally not eligible to apply for Dependant’s Passes or LTVPs, unless specifically allowed under the terms of the relevant FTA and if they meet the prevailing criteria.
Documents Required for the LTVP Application
Applicants for a Long-Term Visit Pass in Singapore must prepare and submit a set of documents to support the application. The exact requirements depend on the relationship between the main work pass holder and the family member.
Basic Documents for All Applications
The following documents must be submitted for every LTVP application:
- A clear copy of the personal particulars page of the candidate’s passport;
- Birth or marriage certificates, depending on the relationship.
All documents not in English must be accompanied by an official English translation, submitted together as one file. Translations should be done by a professional translation service.
Additional Documents Based on Relationship
Depending on who the LTVP is for, additional supporting documents may be required:
Common-Law Spouse
Submit any one of the following:
- A copy of a common-law marriage certificate, or
- A notarised affidavit from the work pass holder and spouse stating they are in a common-law relationship recognised in their home country or region, or
- A letter from the embassy of the work pass holder or spouse confirming recognition of their common-law relationship
Unmarried Handicapped Children (Aged 21 and Above)
- A letter or report from a medical practitioner confirming the child’s condition
Unmarried Stepchildren (Under 21 Years Old)
- A copy of the court order granting custody of the child
- A letter from the other biological parent stating no objection to the child relocating to Singapore
- A Verification of Vaccination Requirements document issued by the Health Promotion Board (HPB), required if:
- The child is 12 years old or younger, and
- Applying for a new LTVP (including those whose pass expired or was cancelled over 30 days ago)
- Note: This is not required for current DP, LTVP, or Student's Pass holders
Parents
- A copy of the work pass holder’s birth certificate showing the names of the parents
Additional Notes
- The authorities may request other documents during the application review process.
- Ensure all documents are clear and complete, to avoid delays or rejections.
Employment Options for LTVP Holders
Long-Term Visit Pass holders who wish to work in Singapore must first secure the proper work pass. Simply holding an LTVP does not grant the right to work automatically.
To work legally in Singapore, LTVP holders must:
- Have the prospective employer apply for a separate work pass (such as an Employment Pass, S Pass, or Work Permit) on their behalf.
- Meet all the eligibility criteria set for the specific work pass they are applying for.
- Receive a job offer from a Singapore-based employer.
Important Restrictions
LTVP holders are prohibited from engaging in certain occupations that are considered objectionable. Examples include working as a dance hostess or masseur in unlicensed establishments.
It is essential for LTVP holders to ensure that their employment is properly authorized, to avoid penalties or the cancellation of their pass.
How to Apply for a Long-Term Visit Pass

Step 1: Submit the Application via myMOM portal
- If the main pass holder has an Employment Pass or S Pass, the application must be submitted by their employer or an appointed employment agent.
- If the main pass holder holds a Personalised Employment Pass (PEP) or EntrePass, they can submit the application themselves.
- If the main pass holder has an EP (Sponsorship), a local sponsor (such as a registered company in Singapore) must submit the application.
After submission, the applicant will receive either an In-Principle Approval (IPA) letter or a rejection letter.

Step 2: Prepare for Arrival in Singapore
The appointment of a DPO requires formal approval from the company’s board of directors. Pass a board resolution to officially designate the individual or team as the DPO, documenting the decision for compliance purposes.
Step 3: Get the Pass Issued
The same party who submitted the application — either the employer, appointed agent, main pass holder, or local sponsor — must complete the issuance process after the applicant arrives in Singapore. Once completed, a notification letter will be issued to confirm the temporary stay and activities.
Step 4: Register Fingerprints and Photo (If Required)
In some cases, the LTVP holder may be asked to register their fingerprints and photo at the Ministry of Manpower's designated location. Instructions will be provided in the notification letter, if applicable.
Step 5: Receive the LTVP Card
After successful registration (if required), the LTVP holder or an authorised person can collect the Long-Term Visit Pass card. This card serves as the official document confirming the holder’s residency status in Singapore.
Application Costs
- S$105 for each pass application
- S$225 for each pass issuance
- S$30 for a Multiple Journey Visa (if required)
Processing Time
- For dependants of EP or S Pass holders, processing usually takes up to 3 weeks.
- For dependants of PEP, EntrePass, or EP (Sponsorship) holders, it may take up to 8 weeks.
LTVP Renewal and Cancellation
Renewing a Long-Term Visit Pass
Long-Term Visit Passes can be renewed as long as the pass holder continues to meet the eligibility requirements. Employers can start the renewal process up to 6 months before the pass expires. For dependants of Employment Pass (Sponsorship) and EntrePass holders, renewals can be submitted starting 3 months before expiry. It’s important to apply before the current pass expires.
The renewal application must be submitted by the employer or an appointed Employment Agent (EA). Once approved, the duration of the renewed pass will be linked to the validity of the main work pass, or the requested duration — whichever is shorter.
The fee for issuing a renewed pass is S$225. If a Multiple Journey Visa (MJV) is needed, there is an additional fee of S$30. Most applications are processed within 3 weeks. For dependants of Employment Pass (Sponsorship) and EntrePass holders, processing may take up to 8 weeks.
Cancelling a Long-Term Visit Pass
An LTVP must be cancelled if the pass holder no longer needs it — such as when they plan to leave Singapore permanently or stay long-term in another country. Employers or employment agents are responsible for submitting the cancellation request. Holders of a Personalised Employment Pass (PEP) or EntrePass may also cancel their family members’ LTVPs themselves or through an agent.
You can submit a cancellation request up to 14 days in advance. For example, if you want the pass cancelled on 15 February, the request can be submitted anytime from 1 February onwards. Cancellation is typically immediate, unless submitted in advance.
It’s not necessary to cancel the LTVP if:
- The pass has already expired (but if the holder remains in Singapore, a Short-Term Visit Pass (STVP) should be requested).
- The main work pass holder’s pass is being cancelled (in this case, family passes are cancelled together).
- The LTVP holder has become a Singapore permanent resident.
LTVP Issued by ICA (For Family Members of Singapore Citizens and PRs)
Apart from the Long-Term Visit Pass issued by the Ministry of Manpower (MOM) for family members of foreign work pass holders, Singapore also offers an LTVP issued by the Immigration and Checkpoints Authority (ICA). This version of the LTVP is designed for foreign family members of Singapore citizens and Permanent Residents (PRs).
Who Is Eligible?
You may apply for an ICA-issued LTVP if you fall into one of the following categories:
- Spouse of a Singapore citizen or PR
- Unmarried child (below 21 years old) born within a legal marriage to, or legally adopted by, a Singapore citizen or PR
- Parent of a Singapore citizen or PR (Note: Parents-in-law are not eligible)
- Graduate from a recognised institute of higher learning in Singapore seeking employment
- Parent or grandparent of a child studying in Singapore on a Student's Pass
- Visitor seeking permission to give birth in Singapore
Applications must be sponsored by a Singapore citizen or PR, who will submit the application online using their Singpass account.
Application Process and Fees
The LTVP application is submitted through ICA’s e-Service portal. Applicants and sponsors must log in using Singpass, and approval for a Singpass account can take 2 to 5 working days.
Fees involved include:
- S$45 at the time of application
- S$60 for pass issuance
- An additional S$30 if a Multiple Journey Visa (MJV) is required
Processing time is typically around 6 weeks, although applications by foreign spouses of Singapore citizens can take up to 6 months. Those who complete the Pre-Marriage LTVP Assessment (PMLA) before marriage benefit from a faster processing time of 6 weeks.
Key Notes
- ICA assesses applications based on factors such as family ties, economic contributions, qualifications, age, and commitment to settling in Singapore.
- Renewal applications should be submitted at least 3 months before expiry, and any remaining validity on the current pass will not be carried forward.
- Importantly, ICA does not endorse any private immigration agencies or consultants — applications should be handled directly through official ICA channels.
